Awaken Your Artist is a six-day international acting retreat and performance immersive conceived and produced by Hechale Productions and hosted by Centro Cultural Casa Hechale in Mexico City. Actors and performing artists come together as a small international ensemble for more than 30 hours of acting and performance practice, including movement and embodied work, ensemble training, improvisation, text and scene exploration, play and collaborative experimentation. The week extends beyond the studio. The programme includes accommodation in Mexico City, selected meals, group outings, theatre and cultural activities, and shared time experiencing the city together. Based in the historic neighbourhood of Santa María la Ribera, Centro Cultural Casa Hechale is an independent cultural centre for theatre, performance, dramaturgy, movement, residency and artistic research. The programme grows from the cross-border work of Hechale Productions, connecting theatre artists and creative communities across Mexico and the United States. Its work has been presented within Mexico City’s public theatre and cultural ecosystem, including programming through the Sistema de Teatros de la Ciudad de México. Participants arrive with different training histories, cultural references and approaches to performance. The six days create time to work closely, encounter new methods, take artistic risks and experience Mexico City through its contemporary cultural life.
